In Appreciation – August 2010

August 31, 2010

To mark the end of my first month of blogging, I am going to take a post to thank those who have gone out of their way to give me their help and support.  I have had only limited contact with the lawyers listed below, but even their brief acknowledgments and encouragements are evidence of the largely unknown generosity and collegiality that goes on in our profession.  Most of the others are beloved family and friends whose loyalty is unbending.

Thank you so much to the following individuals:

LAWYERS

  • Kyra Howell, Esq. – A fellow Virginia estate planning attorney of the Howell Law Firm in Sperryville.  She has achieved the distinguished “Personal Family Lawyer” designation that compliments her focus on helping families and children.  She was immediately gracious and approachable during our initial exchange of messages on twitter.
  • Keith Schiller, Esq. – Mr. Schiller is an Orinda, California law practitioner, CPA and author of “Art of the Estate Tax Return”, regarding the completing and filing Federal estate tax returns using famous movies to illustrate his points (available at his Estate Planning at the Movies website).  He is a nationally recognized speaker, writer and educator.  A true gentleman from the “old school”, he sent me a very gracious and complimentary thank you note for my mere act of citing his website in a recent post.
  • Laurie Redman, Esq. – Ms. Redman is an estate planning and small business attorney at her firm, the Law Office of Laurie Kadair Redman, LLC, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  She is also active in her community as a special advocate for children and a regular pro bono volunteer.  She is a sentimental favorite of mine, as she was the first to “retweet” one of my posts on twitter.
  • Carl K. Zucker, Esq. (1934-2002)

NON-LAWYERS

  • Eric Teng – Outstanding, renowned and award-winning graphic designer and marketing specialist with a true passion for his work.  He is the managing partner at DMD Insight in New York City.  He is helping me develop a firm branding strategy and is tactful and honest about which ideas of mine may need some rethinking.
  • Grant Griffiths – Mr. Griffiths, out of Clay Center, KS, runs several blog, social media and website design sites, including StartBloggingToday.com and BlogforProfit.com.  He has personally given me indispensable advice in helping me get started on this blog.
  • Karyn Greco – Marketing and consulting expert for Fortune 500 companies.  Typical workaholic who in her “spare time” runs Red Green Blue, a gift gallery, craft studio and party space in downtown Princeton, NJ.  Check it out if you are in the area and want a fun diversion with the kids.  She has coached me on the importance of ethics, professionalism and consistency.
  • Wendy Glavin – No-nonsense public relations and business management specialist.  She is also in high demand for her discerning eye for French jewelry, as evidenced by her dozens of shows up and down the East Coast through her “Ornements Jewelry” business.  She has no fear and uses that to illustrate how self-promotion is really just a matter of showing others how you can be helpful to them (and not yourself).
  • Andrea, Benjamin and Samantha Zucker – My very patient wife and two adorable children.
  • Syma Zucker
